Late Night Auto Accident in Pinellas County Kills 44-Year-Old Pedestrian
A 46-year-old man from Kenneth City, Florida is facing DUI and possession charges this weekend after authorities with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) apprehended him for his alleged connection to a severe pedestrian accident that claimed the life of a St. Petersburg man on Seminole Boulevard this past Saturday evening.
According to preliminary collision reports from detectives with the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) department of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, it was almost 11:30 p.m. on August 28, 2021, when 44-year-old Noel Karcher from St. Petersburg was walking with his bicycle near his home close to the 5300 block of Seminole Boulevard. At some point during this stroll, Karcher decided to cross the street from east to west and as he did so, he was struck by a 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander that was being driven in the southbound direction of Seminole Boulevard by 46-year-old Brian Thomas.
Local Pinellas County emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene of the deadly auto accident and quickly discovered that the 44-year-old pedestrian victim had sustained serious blunt force trauma injuries during the collision and had sadly already passed away before any medical assistance was able to be administered. Officers stated that the driver of the Outlander, Brian Thomas, was exhibiting signs of intoxication when being questioned about the incident. This behavior prompted the PCSO to administer mandatory field sobriety tests to determine the level and type of impairment. Once the routine roadside testing was completed, Thomas was arrested and taken to the Pinellas County Jail on charges of DUI with death and possession of clonazepam – a controlled substance.
An investigation into this tragic accident is currently ongoing although further details surrounding this case have yet to be released to the public. Thomas remains in jail with a $6000 bail.
