Florida DUI Accident Kills Pedestrian
An accident late Saturday night resulted in the death of a 20-year-old man according to authorities. He was walking along State Road 46 in Lake County when he was struck by a vehicle driven by a 43-year-old man. The driver was booked on suspicion of DUI and held on a $50,250 bond. He failed to admit to a sobriety test on the scene.
Driving under the influence of alcohol is a contributing factor in hundreds of accidents on Florida highways and streets every year. It takes as little as one drink to begin to have an effect on judgment and visual perception for the average adult. One of the latest national campaigns against drunk driving targets driving while only slightly impaired. The slogan is ‘Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving.’ Officials hope this message will hit home with teens and adults – driving while only slighted impaired will merit a DUI, just the same as someone driving with twice the legal limit in their bloodstream.
For the victims of drivers who are under the influence, the knowledge that the person responsible for their injuries was under the influence can be especially frustrating. The decision to drink and drive should not be taken lightly, and the amount of information available to adults that do drink is higher than it has ever been. There is no excuse for anyone to consume alcohol and get behind the wheel. However, it doesn’t stop many adults from drinking and driving often at the expense of innocent victims. A moment’s indiscretion can have a lasting impact on the life of another.
