Car Strikes, Kills Pedestrian on Sidewalk in Seminole County
It was on Sunday, November 22nd, that a 51-year-old woman from the City of Sanford was walking along County Road 46A within Seminole County when a set of incidents occurred that resulted in them being struck and killed by a car. According to reports from the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident happened early in the evening, close to 5:00 p.m.
Shortly before the collision, the 51-year-old Sanford resident was on the sidewalk and walking along County Road 46A close to where this road intersects with Arbor Lakes Circle. It is believed they were alone at the time, and they were also firmly on the sidewalk and not attempting to cross the roadway.
During this same period of time, a 34-year-old Sanford resident was behind the wheel of a 2003 Nissan 350Z and traveling down the east lanes of County Road 46A. With this individual in the car was a 26-year-old from Lake Mary. It was as the Nissan neared the area close to where the pedestrian was walking that the driver of the Nissan lost control of their vehicle for reasons that remain under investigation. Before they were able to regain control, the car struck the curb, jumped over it, and collided with the 51-year-old pedestrian.
Emergency response crews were immediately called into the scene and rushed to tend to the badly injured woman. The EMTs and paramedics did what they could at the crash site and then transported the woman to a nearby hospital via ambulance. While the initial treatment of the pedestrian accident victim was undertaken County Road 46A was closed in both directions. The roadway remained closed throughout the preliminary investigation, but it was reopened later that same evening.
When the pedestrian reached the hospital, they were treated by the emergency doctors and nurses on staff. Unfortunately, the extent of their injuries was severe, and it was shortly after reaching the hospital that the woman was declared dead.
Neither the 34-year-old driver of the Nissan nor their 26-year-old passenger were injured as a result of the crash. Charges are currently pending against the 34-year-old driver. No charges are expected against their passenger.
