Pedestrian Killed in DuPont Bridge Traffic Accident
On September 11th, a vehicle struck a pedestrian on DuPont Bridge on Hwy. 98 in Parker, Florida. The victim was taken to Bay Medical Center in critical condition, and died Saturday afternoon.
Crash on Florida Turnpike Kills Family
In early September, a devastating crash on the Florida turnpike killed three people. A 24-year-old driver in a Mercedes SUV struck a southbound Nissan Maxima in the early morning hours at mile marker 286, according to authorities. The driver had a suspended license for reasons currently under investigation. Both cars were flipped onto their sides and caught fire, and the Nissan’s male driver and female passenger, died on the scene, while an infant was thrown from the vehicle and died at Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital. The driver of the Mercedes only suffered minor injuries.
Driver Perishes in Pembroke Pines Crash
A single car rollover accident on I-75 Monday morning has claimed the life of a young male victim. Authorities report that a black Nissan GTR sports car was traveling on southbound Interstate 75 when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle flipped over several times before coming to rest on its top. The driver was ejected from the vehicle. Pembroke Fire and Rescue searched the debris field up to 200 feet north of where the vehicle came to rest, but found no other victims. It is unknown if there was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
Four Corners Crash Injuries Five Children
A Friday afternoon accident sent five children to the hospital after the van they were riding in hit a truck. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a van driven by a 30-year-old Orlando woman was southbound on U.S. Highway 27 around 2:40 pm. The driver had turned her head while she was talking to one of her daughters in the back seat, and when she turned around she saw a truck stopped in front of her.
Palm Beach Students Served Apple Snacks That Were Later Recalled
Employees at Palm Beach County Schools are monitoring students closely for any signs of food poisoning following a recall of apple slices served to public school students as part of student lunches. The Snack Fresh apple slices, packaged by Appeeling Fruit, were recalled Sept. 9th after a countertop tested positive for listeria in a production area. The company is urging customers to discard or return unused apples. No bacteria was found on any of the apples at the packaging plant.
Fatal Accident on Florida Turnpike
A Tuesday afternoon crash has left a State Farm Road Ranger dead. According to the Florida Highway Patrol the ranger was stopped to help a motorist in the northbound lanes near 120th Street. The ranger was attempting to slow down traffic when the driver of a dump truck lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a nearby pole. As the ranger was trying to get out of the path of the truck, he was run over. The ranger’s name had not been released as of Tuesday evening.
Crash in Tallahassee Claims Three Lives
An accident in Tallahassee on Sunday night claimed the lives of three young victims. According to Tallahassee police reports, a black Challenger driver by a 27-year-old Tallahassee man was traveling westbound on Pensacola Drive when he struck a white PT Cruiser in the side as it attempted to make a left-hand turn onto White Drive. The driver of the PT Cruiser, a 20-year-old also from Tallahassee was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. His three passengers, two males and a female who were all students at Florida State University, died at the scene from their injuries. The driver of the Challenger also sustained only minor injuries.
Jacksonville Dog Bite Victim Recovering After Friday’s Attack
A man walking along Pacetti Street in Jacksonville’s east side was attacked on Friday evening by four dogs, all of which are described as a pit bull mix. According to eye witness accounts, he was just walking down the street when the dogs escaped from a yard with a poorly maintained chain link fence. The dogs continued to attack the 56-year-old victim until witnesses rushed to help.
New Improvements to Orlando Crosswalks
A new program in Orange County will bring improvements to the areas sidewalks and roads. The county is home to many hazardous areas for walkers and bicyclists, and metro Orlando is one of the most dangerous areas in the nation for pedestrians. Even in areas where there are existing crosswalks, officials say the safety measures are outdated.
Pedestrian Killed on Florida State Road A1A
In late August, a woman was trying to cross a busy area of State Road A1A when she was struck by a car and died. She was hit by a grey Chevrolet sedan on a Sunday night. This accident is tragic, and even more upsetting is the fact that it is the third pedestrian accident to take place in the same area of the highway over the past four months.
