Police Find Crashed Car In Pensacola with Woman Inside
Over the weekend the police in Pensacola, Florida, came across an unexpected site. While out on the regular morning patrol, two officers found a wrecked vehicle – with a woman inside. They immediately broke open the window and pulled her out. Although they performed CPR while waiting for paramedics and EMS to arrive to take her to the hospital, it was later confirmed that she had died.
Over $1 Billion Awarded to Six Plaintiffs in DePuy Hip Implant Lawsuit
This past Thursday, in a victory for individuals suffering from defective hip implants, a jury in Dallas, Texas, awarded six individuals over $1 billion, payable by the Johnson & Johnson company and the DePuy Orthopaedics group. According to the court documents and the testimony from the plaintiffs, the hip implants, which featured a “state-of-the-art” metal-on-metal design, were poorly constructed and lead directly to severe injury and bodily harm such as bone erosion and tissue death.
Two Injured, One Dead When Driver Blows Red Light in Jacksonville
A teenager was killed following a multi-car accident in Jacksonville. The accident happened at the intersection of St John’s Bluff and Beach Boulevard, one of the city’s busiest crossroads. In addition to the teen, two others were taken to the hospital for life threatening injuries where they remain in serious condition.
Infants Safe Following Multi-Car Collision in Mims
A multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 late Sunday left several people injured, including three infants. The crash happened late Sunday just south of Mims, Florida. Although all those involved were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, the Florida Highway Patrol reports that all are now recovering without any serious injuries. One officer specifically notes that the fact all three infants were properly strapped into car seats played a big role in their well-being.
Dallas Jury Awards $1 Billion Verdict Against Johnson & Johnson Hip Implants
According to a federal jury in Dallas last week, Johnson & Johnson’s metal-on-metal Pinnacle hip implants were defectively designed. As the company, along with its DePuy Orthopaedics unit, knew of the defect yet failed to properly warn consumers about the risk, the jury ordered the company to pay over $1 billion to the six plaintiffs named on the action. The verdict includes $32 million in compensatory damages, with the remainder being designated as punitive damages.
More Legal Woes for Johnson & Johnson’s Hip Implants in Dallas
Another week, another jury verdict against Johnson & Johnson and its hip implant products. This time, a federal jury in Dallas hit the company with a verdict for $1 billion in damages. The verdict is the second in a long line of potential lawsuits pertaining to the company’s metal-on-metal Pinnacle hip implants. According to the verdict, not only were the implants defective and injuring consumers, Johnson & Johnson, along with its DePuy Orthopaedics unit, knew of the defect yet continued to sell the product. On top of this, they also failed to take any reasonable steps to warn consumers about the known risks.
Motorcyclist Killed in Rear-End Collision in Florida
Shortly before 3:40pm on Saturday, two vehicles, a pickup truck and a motorcycle were driving down Colonial Drive’s left lane when they collided. According to the report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened near to where State Road 50 and Saint Nicholas Avenue intersect. The report goes on to say that the motorcyclist was attempting to slow down before driving into a break in the median—probably attempting to turn around or to cross the road into a shopping center—when the accident occurred. Witnesses to the scene state that when the motorcyclist slowed down the pickup kept driving forwards at its current speed. This caused the front of the pickup to collide with the rear of the motorcycle.
Woman Dies after Driving Car Into Winter Garden Retention Pond
Very early on Sunday Morning, Deborah Lynn Williamson was driving along Tilden Road in Winter Garden, close to where it intersects with Tiny Road when she somehow lost control of her car. According to the witnesses who called the police, Williamson suddenly swerved off of the road and drove straight into a retention pond. The emergency response teams were dispatched as soon as the witness called 911, but when they first arrived, shortly after 1:00 in the morning, they were unable to reach the sunken car.
Seminole County Apartment Fire Leaves Families Homeless
On Sunday morning, just in time to ruin the holidays for scores of people, a fire erupted in the Sandpiper Apartments, located in Casselberry. The Seminole County Fire Rescue has issued a statement regarding the incident in which they discuss what is currently known as well as what is still under investigation. According to the report, the Seminole County Fire Rescue were alerted to the presence of smoke and flame around 5:45 in the morning.
