Infants Safe Following Multi-Car Collision in Mims
A multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 late Sunday left several people injured, including three infants. The crash happened late Sunday just south of Mims, Florida. Although all those involved were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, the Florida Highway Patrol reports that all are now recovering without any serious injuries. One officer specifically notes that the fact all three infants were properly strapped into car seats played a big role in their well-being.
When an infant is involved in a motor vehicle accident things can be both frightening and complex. For example, in the case at hand, the three infants were considerably lucky that their parents had properly secured them into their child seats. Had they not, the outcome may have been tragic.
That being said, even though all three were taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries, because they are so young some injuries may not immediately manifest themselves. When an adult is involved in a car accident, although they may not feel any immediate injuries, some days later they could develop pain in their neck or back. This is a typical symptom of whiplash, a common car accident injury. Whiplash not only can result in severe pain, it can also limit ones movement and, in some cases, ability to work. However, because an adult can communicate these symptoms, they can report them to a doctor, who can likely link it to the car accident. The adult can then file a lawsuit against the other driver to get compensation for their injuries.
With an infant this process becomes much more difficult. First, there’s the obvious challenge of an infant’s inability to communicate their pain verbally, meaning a parent will likely not even know of a whiplash injury. More so, any limitation to movement, which could affect their future work life, will not manifest for years into the future.
Because of all these challenges, it is important that any infant involved in a car crash, no matter how minor, get a full examination by a doctor. Furthermore, it is important that you seek the advice of an experienced Florida personal injury attorney, who can review your case and the doctor’s report and advise you on what you can do to ensure that you and your family get the compensation you deserve.
