Marion County High-Speed Crash Fatally Injures 30-Year-Old Motorcyclist
Although the exact details have yet to be determined, authorities with the Florida Highway Patrol operating in Marion County believe they have a clear understanding as to the cause of a deadly motorcycle accident which claimed the life of a 30-year-old man from Ocala this past Saturday afternoon on State Road 40.
According to preliminary collision reports from the Florida Highway Patrol and additional Marion County law enforcement agencies, it was approximately 5:16 p.m. on June 5th, 2021, when officers were dispatched to a section of street on State Road 40 close to State Road 19 in response to a severe auto accident involving a motorcyclist.
Witness statements retrieved at the scene by the Florida Highway Patrol indicate that two motorcyclists were travelling together in the western direction of State Road 40 at a rate of speed much higher than the posted limit, and as the bikers approached an upcoming curve, the victim failed to appropriately maneuver the turn in the road and he rear-ended a boat trailer that was being pulled by a pickup truck.
The impact from the motorcycle accident was so forceful that it ejected the 30-year-old motorcyclist from his bike and onto the pavement. Medical teams with the Marion County Fire Rescue were at the scene within a matter of minutes to assist the severely injured man and although he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, his injuries proved to be far too serious to survive from and he was declared dead shortly after their arrival.
The 71-year-old male driver of the pickup truck and his 74-year-old male passenger sustained only minor injuries in the collision. It is unclear at this time if any of the individuals involved in this fatal accident will face legal charges.
