Two Pedestrians Injured in Orlando Hit-and-Run
A massive search is underway in Orange County to find and apprehend the individual responsible for a hit-and-run crash that took place in downtown Orlando on Thursday Night. Initial reports on the incident suggest that the crash left at least two people injured, although it does not appear that any of the injuries were fatal or critical.
The facts as we currently know them indicate that it was late in the evening on Thursday when the car, which was being driven down International Drive, approached Carrier Drive. The intersection of these two streets is situated at the epicenter of Orlando’s popular tourist district, and on Thursday night, as on most every other night, it was full of people out enjoying the weather, the nightlife, and the warm Florida breezes.
Into the midst of this vibrant excitement, the individual behind the wheel of what is believed to be a white SUV drove through the intersection without, apparently, seeing the pedestrians. The SUV collided with at least two people and then, seemingly without pausing a moment, took off down the road.
Witnesses to the scene immediately called 9-1-1 to report the collision and emergency response teams arrived almost immediately on the scene to help the injured victims. Both of the pedestrians were rushed to Dr. Phillips Hospital where they received treatment for injuries that the initial report described as being minor. It is not known whether or not the injured pedestrians remained in the medical facility overnight or if they were released from care later that same evening.
Police with the Orlando Police Department and the Florida Highway Patrol are now searching for the individual behind the wheel of the white SUV that was responsible for this incident. The initial report did not provide many more details regarding the vehicle, although given that the incident occurred at such a public location it is highly probable that many witnesses to the scene are on hand to assist the police in tracking down the car in question.
Once caught, the driver of the SUV will likely face numerous charges including hit-and-run and fleeing from the scene of an accident with injuries.
