Teenager Becomes Victim of Hit-and-Run Hours After Receiving Driver’s License

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on July 8, 2019

Police working within the city of Apopka are trying to find the driver responsible for a hit-and-run that narrowly missed causing tremendous injuries to a 16-year-old individual who had just passed her driving test. According to the reports, the incident took place sometime around 4:00 in the afternoon of Monday, July 1st, while the 16-year-old was on her way to show her new license to some friends. Her father told reporters that it was only 7 or so minutes after she left the house that he received a call from the girl saying that she’d gotten into a car accident.

Official reports stated that the 16-year-old had reached the intersection between Rock Springs Road and Rock Ridge Boulevard. Witnesses to the scene told the police that the light for the 16-year-old’s lane had turned green and that the younger person was driving through when a truck (described only as being a dark color) ran a red light and collided with the 16-year-old’s vehicle. Immediately after the crash, witnesses say that the truck sped away.

At this time, a second truck then collided with the 16-year-old’s car, causing her vehicle to spin across the road and strike a light pole with its front end. Fortunately, the driver of this second vehicle remained at the scene. When the authorities and the father of the girl arrived, they found the girl’s Ford Focus smashed into the pole, but the 16-year-old herself was, except for being badly shaken up, unharmed.

It is not known if the driver of the second pickup truck suffered from any injuries. It is also not known if this person also ran the red light or if they were traveling in a lane that had a green light at the time of the accident.

Currently, no information exists regarding the identity of the person who ran the red light and caused the hit-and-run. Situations such as this one are difficult for authorities to solve on their own and frequently require the assistance of people who know something about the drivers involved. Police within Apopka are currently asking anyone who might have information regarding this situation to step forward and assist them in locating the person responsible for this crash.
