Skateboarder Struck and Killed by Unidentified Driver in Ocoee
Shortly after 9:00 on Sunday, an individual was on a skateboard and traveling down either Silver Star Road or 1st Street within the City of Ocoee. This person, who was not named or described other than as being an adult, was traveling within the road, but it is believed that they were either traveling along the road’s shoulder or were within a pedestrian crossing zone at the time that a vehicle – not described in the report – entered the scene. The driver of this vehicle either failed to see the skateboarder or believed that there was more space between them and the car.
It was as the driver and the skateboarder were passing through Silver Star Road and 1st Street that the car struck the skateboarder with considerable force. The skateboarder was knocked to the asphalt and lay motionless and injured while the driver of the car sped away from the scene. It is not clear if the driver was even aware that they had collided with the person on the skateboard, but we do know that after the collision the driver left the scene and did not return.
Officers with the Ocoee Police Department were some of the first on the scene after the crash was reported. It is believed that the hit-and-run accident was witnessed by a small handful of people, or at least the scene was encountered shortly after the car struck the skateboarder. Unfortunately, no one was able to get a decent look at the car involved, and now the Ocoee Police Department is engaged in a search for the person who was behind the wheel of this car at the time of the accident. At the time of this writing, no description of the car involved or of the person behind the wheel have been issued.
When emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene, they found the skateboarder in devastating condition. It is believed that they were unable to be revived after suffering from the crash with the car, and the emergency medical crews pronounced them dead at the scene of the crash.
Anyone possessing any information around the vehicle or driver involved is strongly encouraged to reach out to the Ocoee police Department.
