Coco Police Officer Injured in Hit-and-Run along U.S. 1
On Sunday, Officer Rickford Leitch of the Cocoa Police Department was helping to escort a procession of individuals transporting the Traveling Vietnam War Memorial Wall through Cocoa and to Melbourne when he was hit by a car. The procession, an annual event that is widely attended and very popular among the citizens of the towns through which it passes, was traveling along U.S. 1 (which was recently ranked the most dangerous roadway in the country) when Officer Leitch was struck.
Construction Worker Critically Injured in Lake County Hit-and-Run
The Orlando Regional Medical Center currently has a patient within its walls that was injured while working on U.S. 27 and Frank Jarrell Road in Lake County on Tuesday Morning. According to a report, the injured construction worker, the 36-year-old Luciano Angeles, a resident of Lakeland, was part of a small crew doing maintenance along U.S. 27 close to 7:30 in the morning when the incident occurred. The report goes on to say that Angeles was standing outside of his pickup truck, although he was, according to all witnesses, far away from the roadway.
13-Year-Old Dies, Numerous Others Injured in DUI Hit-and-Run in Polk County
A 13-year-old boy has died and five other people injured in an accident that occurred in Polk County last Thursday afternoon. This horrific event was first responded to by a Polk County Sheriff’s Deputy, who was talking on the phone to his 11-year-old daughter at the time of the accident. The deputy, Jonathan “JJ” Quintana, is recorded as having told reporters that he was asleep when his daughter, who was on her way home from school, called him to see if he could pick her up from a nearby bus stop. Before he could even get off the phone, the daughter began to scream and call for help.
High School Student Killed in Hit and Run in Orange County
Alec Gomez, a 15-year-old student at Timber Creek High School in Orange County, was hanging out with friends, skateboarding and yo-yoing this weekend, when he was struck by a motorcyclist close to where Avalon Park Boulevard and Pellicer Drive intersect. According to eyewitness reports from some of the other young people gathered at the location, Gomez was mindfully playing with his friends, carefully avoiding traffic, and being his normal, funny, and conscientious self when the incident occurred around midnight on Friday.
Hit-and-Run Accidents on the Rise in Orange County
Hit-and-run accidents are on the rise in Orange county, a fact that is distressing to both Florida law enforcement officials and the people living in and around the area. According to statistics compiled by the news organization WKMG Orlando based on facts given out by the Florida Highway Patrol, hit-and-run accidents in Florida rose by nearly 20,000 cases since 2014, with each year seeing a nearly ten thousand more hit-and-run cases than the preceding year.
16-Year-Old Killed in Suspicious Oviedo Hit-and-Run Circumstances
In a tragic turn of events, a 16-year-old high school student was killed on Sunday night after a pickup truck ran him over. The details of the accident are somewhat blurry, but the Florida Highway Patrol has released an initial statement that discusses that events that led to Chris Johnson’s death on Sunday evening. According to the report, at around 7:00 pm on Sunday, emergency crews were dispatched to Chinaberry Avenue in Oviedo after a report came in that a person had been struck by a pickup truck and was currently still trapped beneath the vehicle. When the first responders arrived, they found Johnson, a Hagerty High School student, underneath the large vehicle. He was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Pedestrian Killed at Intersection of Orange Blossom Trail and 39th Street in Orange County
At 12:08 on Monday morning Nyasha Powell, a 24-year-old from Orlando, was behind the wheel of her sister’s Dodge Dart, driving along Orange Blossom Trail in Orange County. As she approached the intersection of Orange Blossom Trail and 39th Street, she struck and killed a pedestrian, the 52-year-old Orlando Resident Denny Weaver. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, after the impact, Powell did not stop, but left the scene of the accident. 45 minutes later, Powell returned to the intersection and handed herself over to the police.
Hit-and-Run Kills 67-Year-Old Woman in Orlando
A Friday night hit-and-run accident has taken the life of a 67-year-old woman who was attempting to cross Lake Underhill Road in Orlando. According to the Florida Highway Patrol’s report, Sergio Alvarado, a 25-year-old, was behind the wheel of his Honda as he drove down the eastbound lane of Lake Underhill Road, slightly west of where Lake Underhill Road intersects with Dean Road. Bobby Rainey, the pedestrian, was at the same moment beginning leave the north side of the road in an attempt to make it to the south side’s shoulder. For reasons that are not currently clear, Rainey’s rout took him in front of Alvarado’s Honda.

Three Year Old Left Parentless following Tampa Accident
A 35 year old male suspect is in custody after having run away from the scene of a deadly Tampa, Florida car crash that happened Sunday night on North 34th Street and East Lake Avenue. Investigators report that a 2003 Chevy vehicle was traveling east on East Lake Avenue when the suspect’s 2003 Infiniti pulled out and entered at the intersection with North 34th Street, hitting the truck. The force of the collision was so strong that the vehicles ricocheted into a third vehicle that had stopped at 34th Street in order to make a left turn.
