Orlando Car Crash Totals 40-Year-Old Collectable Convertible

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on December 17, 2021

Although an Orlando man is lucky to be alive for the holidays, his heart was undoubtedly broken last Wednesday evening after a scary hit-and-run collision on Bumby Avenue left his classic collector car in pieces.

According to early collision reports from officers with the Orlando Police Department, Bruce Bessire was driving a few of his work colleagues around in a 1972 Pontiac LeMans sport convertible on December 8, 2021. As the co-workers continued their leisurely cruise southbound along Bumby Avenue, a yet-to-be-identified driver of another vehicle entered the vicinity from the opposite direction and cut off the classic car in a feeble attempt to make a left-hand turn onto a side street. Since the dangerous maneuver by the other vehicle happened so quickly, Bessire was unable to avoid a collision and the two cars crashed into each other. Almost immediately after the accident occurred, the other driver sped away from the scene. Bessire recalls that the other vehicle stopped momentarily, but then proceeded to drive away after a few short minutes.

Local Orlando emergency response teams, as well as officials with the Orlando Police Department, arrived at the scene of the auto accident to thankfully find that none of the classic car’s occupants were injured during the auto accident. Detectives interviewed all of the individuals involved in the incident, however, they currently do not have a suspect and have not made any related arrests.

Even though everyone is thoroughly grateful to have been unharmed during the collision, Bessire is devastated by the massive amount of irreparable damage done to his antique automobile. “I’ve been driving in that car since 1980. My college roommate owned it. My dad bought it from him. They both passed away at about the same time. It’s like a family heirloom, so it’s heartbreaking,” he said during an interview with the media.

It’s an understandably bittersweet outcome for Mr. Bessire, but the silver lining in this entire ordeal is that nobody was severely injured or killed during the collision.
