Hit-and-Run in Orlando Leaves Man in Critical Condition
Police officers within Orange County are currently searching for the driver behind a hit-and-run that happened this past Wednesday morning and left one individual receiving emergency medical care at an area hospital. Their search began after the first reports of the collision took place, sometime shortly before 4:30 in the morning.
A 27-year-old man had been driving his car towards the intersection of Colonial Drive and Chuluota Road when something happened within his car to cause to it stop working. It is not clear from the report if the driver was able to pull their car off to the side of the road or if the car died so suddenly as to make it impossible to remove from a travel lane. After the car came to a stop, the driver exited the vehicle. The reasons behind this are not fully known, although it could have been that the driver was examining their car for signs of what happened or that they were attempting to flag down a passing motorist in order to get some roadside help.
It was while the 27-year-old was standing on the outside of their car that a black Kia came down the road. The driver of the Kia failed to avoid the man standing beside the broken down car, and the Kia’s left side struck the 27-year-old as it passed.
We do not know who called the police to report the incident, but given that we have a description of the car as well as a time when the collision took place it seems entirely possible that there were witnesses to the crash that immediately reached out to the emergency authorities. Police with the Orange County Police Department as well as emergency medical teams from the surrounding area rushed to the crash site to provide assistance to the gravely wounded individual. While he was alive, his injuries were critical, and paramedics rushed him to Orlando Regional Medical Center where he began to receive immediate emergency care. At the time of this writing, it is not clear if the person is still in critical condition or if the medical teams were able to provide the medical care necessary to pull them through the worst of the ordeal.
A search is now on for the driver of the black Kia, and police are looking for any help at all in the location of this individual. As well as the make and color of the car, it is believed that the Kia has a broken fog light.
