Flagler County High-Speed Chase Ends in Hit-and-Run Collision on U.S. 1
According to public incident reports from the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, a 22-year-old man from Bunnell has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a high-speed chase with local authorities that ended in a hit-and-run collision which subsequently injured his passenger and damaged a local business along U.S. Highway 1 on Friday, December 4th, 2020.
It was approximately 4 a.m. on U. S. Highway 1 near Old Dixie Highway when a deputy with the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office first noticed a silver Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS with tinted windows. Apparently spooked by the presence of law enforcement, the driver quickly sped off. This started a high-speed chase between the local authorities and the Monte Carlo, which reached a shocking speed of 120 mph at the peak of the pursuit. The driver then entered the city of Bunnell and attempted a sharp, eastbound turn onto East Drain Street where he was unfortunately unable to maintain control of the Monte Carlo and it crashed into a brick wall.
As the vehicle’s momentum continued to propel it forward, the car’s passenger, Ernest Hall, bailed out before it finally came to a rest after colliding with a laundromat sign. Once the Monte Carlo stopped, the driver, now identified as 22-year-old Bunnell resident Chad Deshawn Marshall, fled the scene on foot. After a brief chase from pursuing officers, Mr. Marshall was apprehended and charged with aggravated fleeing with injury or damage to property, grand theft of a firearm, and leaving the scene of an accident with serious injury.
After complaining about serious back pain, Flagler County emergency responders transported the vehicle’s passenger to a nearby hospital with severe back injuries where he received treatment for a severe spinal cord fracture. The driver of the Monte Carlo was also taken in for medical treatment after sustaining minor injuries in the collision and was released back into police custody afterwards. In addition to the aforementioned charges, Mr. Marshall also faces multiple traffic citations, including illegal window tint, fleeing and eluding a marked patrol vehicle involving a crash with serious bodily injury, and leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury.
