Florida Fugitive Involved in Fatal Auto Accident Arrested in Ireland
An international manhunt that has lasted over a year reached its conclusion this past Tuesday with the apprehension of the man involved in a fatal high-speed auto accident on June 24, 2017 in Highlands County, Florida.
Authorities have been searching for Lorida, Florida native Samuel Joseph Tucker, 23, who is responsible for a drunk driver accident that killed his girlfriend, Alyssa Kay Vice, 22, his passenger, that fateful summer morning. According to reports, it was approximately 3:30 in the morning when Tucker, who was driving his Maserati Ghibli at speeds of nearly 140mph, crashed the luxury sportscar into an electrical pole first, then into a nearby set of chain-linked fences before flipping four times and finally coming to a rest 200 ft. off the main road.
Local emergency responders were dispatched to the accident and employed life-saving techniques to both Tucker and Vice, but the severity of Vice’s injuries proved to be too much, and she passed away at the scene. Tucker was transported to Lakeland Regional Medical Center in severe condition, where his blood-alcohol level was measured to be nearly double the legal limit.
Irish law enforcement have worked in cooperation with the United States in order to apprehend Tucker, who fled to Dublin after the deadly collision, just before he was set to face trial in Florida. He was arrested at his home two hours outside the capital. He is currently in jail, and will remain there until a hearing on September 4th, when he will face possible extradition back to the U.S.
Drunk driver accidents continue to top the list as one Florida’s most deadliest types of car crashes. And although it’s certainly not a statistic we’re proud of, we just cannot ignore the fact that these types of collisions occur, and when they do, we’re here to help.
