Violent Crash at Marion Oaks Intersection Results in Single Fatality
During the early afternoon on Saturday, May 23rd, a woman was within her car and traveling down the road in Marion Oaks when she reached the intersection between Marion Oaks Boulevard and Marion Oaks Lane. When the woman reached the intersection, it is believed that she stopped her car. This information comes from the Florida Highway Patrol, although it is not clear if officers were at the scene before the car accident took place or if these facts come from witnesses who saw the entire sequence of events unfold.
After the car stopped, it attempted to continue through the intersection. At this time, a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck entered the area. It is not clear if the road down which the Tacoma was traveling also featured a stop sign at the intersection or if the sign was only in place for vehicles traveling down the intersecting road. When the Tacoma reached the intersection, it continued to pass through. It was at this time that the driver of the car also attempted to continue through the intersection.
As the car began to move, it was swiftly T-boned by the pickup truck with enough force to push both vehicles 30 yards into the median in the area.
Emergency response crews were quickly alerted to the incident and rushed to the scene. It is believed that they reached the crash site at just before 2:30 in the afternoon. When they arrived, the drivers of both vehicles – who were alone within their vehicles – were still alive, although the woman was badly injured. Despite the best efforts of the paramedics and EMTs who reached the scene at the time, there was nothing that could be done for the woman. She was declared dead at the scene of the crash shortly after the paramedics reached her.
The driver of the pickup truck also sustained injuries in the crash, but they are not believed to be life threatening. It is not clear if they were transported from the scene to a nearby hospital or if they were able to receive treatment at the crash site itself.
The incident remains under investigation. It is not known if any charges are pending.
