Two-Car Crash Leaves One Dead in DeBary

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on July 19, 2019

A DeBary collision between a Lexus and a Ford F350 that took place on Wednesday, July 10th, is behind the death of a 43-year-old woman, according to reports from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office. The report from the sheriff’s office went into some detail regarding the incident, although much of the events leading up to the car crash remain the subject of an investigation spearheaded by this same organization.

What we know so far is that the 43-year-old was behind the wheel of a Lexus and traveling down West Highbanks Road when she reached the intersection of West Highbanks and South Shell Road. When she reached this intersection, the woman then decided to turn left off of West Highbanks and enter South Shell. In order to do this, the Lexus had to cross over the traffic traveling down the opposite lane of West Highbanks. It was as she was traveling across west Highbanks that the crash took place.

It is not clear if the intersection of these two roads features a stoplight, and if so it is not clear if that stoplight was green or red for the two drivers involved. What we do know is that the driver of the Lexus, a 53-year-old individual, was alarmed at the sudden entrance of another car turning across his lane. It is believed that the driver of the F350 attempted to turn off of the roadway in order to avoid a collision with the Lexus, but the speed at which the two vehicles were traveling meant that they were both already too committed to the inevitability of the crash to alter the course in any meaningful way. Instead, the F350 struck the Lexus with its large driver side wheel as well as its bumper.

The driver of the Lexus was, unfortunately, not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, possibly contributing heavily to the injuries that they sustained in the incident. Emergency response crews rushed to the area in order to tend to the person, but by the time they arrived it was too late and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is not believed that the driver of the Ford F350 was injured in any way during the collision.
