Two-Car Accident in Nokomis Injures Two
On the afternoon of Sunday, October 11th, 2015, two people were injured in a two-car accident in Nokomis. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, both drivers were transported to hospitals for their injuries around 3:30 p.m., after the accident had occurred.
A Florida Highway Patrol press release revealed the two drivers to be 74-year-old James Jennings and 34-year-old Drew Trainer, both from Sarasota. Both Trainer and Jennings were headed north on Mission Valley Boulevard and were nearing Pacer Street when Jennings slowed his 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe to make a right turn. Unfortunately, Trainer did not slow down in his 2011 Ford F150 and crashed into the rear end of Jennings’ car, causing it to spin out and flip over. Jennings’ vehicle was also carrying 68-year-old passenger Mary Sarle.
Bayflight took Jennings to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, and Sarle was transported to Venice Regional Bayfront Health hospital by ambulance. Both of them were wearing seatbelts, and Sarle’s injuries were reported by the Florida Highway Patrol as minor. However, Jennings’ injuries were considered quite serious. Trainer was fortunately found to be uninjured, but has since been cited by police for careless driving. It is uncertain at the moment whether Trainer will choose to fight these charges or not.
Since the accident, no new information has been released regarding the outcome of the two victims in the Santa Fe driven by Jennings. Perhaps the only silver lining in this story is that neither of the two individuals struck were killed — another testament to the everyday importance of a properly-latched seatbelt.
