SUV, Motorcycle Crash Kills One and Damages House in Seminole

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on January 20, 2017

Police in Seminole, Florida, are investigating an automobile crash that involved a SUV, motorcycle and a house. The accident happened on 113th street. According to witnesses, after the SUV and motorcycle hit each other, the SUV was sent off the road, through a fence, by a pool and into a nearby home.

The 60 year old female driver of the SUV was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The motorcycle driver, a 22 year old male, was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

As is clear in the case above, motorcycle versus car accidents are very dangerous – if not deadly – for the motorcyclist. Motorcyclists are particularly susceptible to accidents, mainly because they are harder to see and many drivers fail to make an effort to always check for a motorcyclist before changing lanes or making a left turn. Even when wearing a helmet and other protective gear, when an accident happens at a high or even moderate rate of speed, the result is usually serious injury or death. Common injuries in car versus motorcycle accidents include:

  • Road rash
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Back injuries
  • Neck injuries
  • Multiple broken bones
  • Blunt trauma injuries
  • Death

Even more worrying is the fact that motorcycle accidents are on the rise, a direct result of more and more people hitting the road on a motorcycle. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 1998 there were less than 4 million motorcycles in the US. Today there are over 7 million. Furthermore, a motorcyclist is at least 37 times more likely than a car driver or passenger to die in the event of an accident.

If you or a loved one are the victim of a Florida car vs motorcycle accident, you may be entitled to compensation for your injuries. Depending on the specific circumstances of the accident, in general, if the driver of the car has acted negligently, and that negligence caused the accident and your injuries, then you can file a lawsuit and seek compensation for your injuries.
