Suspect Arrested After Crashing Into Numerous Cars in Daytona Beach Shores
An individual who was wanted on charges of armed burglary as well as larceny and other things was arrested on the morning of Friday, April 26th, after crashing into numerous cars parked in a Winn-Dixie parking lot. According to the reports from the Daytona Beach Shores Public Safety Department, the incident took place after officers working within Daytona Beach Shores received reports that the above-mentioned individual was spotted at the Winn-Dixie. Shortly after the reports were received, officers in unmarked cars reached the area. Among them were a police sergeant’s unmarked patrol vehicle and a detective’s unmarked car.
Soon after arriving, the suspect was seen leaving the grocery store. What happened next is not exactly clear, but it seems as though the officers attempted to detain the individual while they – the individual – was still on foot. Instead of submitting, the suspect then fled to their car, climbed in, and attempted to flee from the scene. It was while he was engaged in this process that the collision took place.
While we do not know the order of the crashes, it is clear that the 43-year-old suspect was reversing when they struck the sergeant’s unmarked car. The detective’s car was also struck while the suspect was trying to escape, as were three other cars that are not believed to belong to anyone engaged in law enforcement activities. It is not clear if the collisions caused the suspect’s car to become disabled, but we do know that after the crash took place, the suspect was able to be apprehended.
The reports from the scene stated that no injuries took place as a result of the numerous collisions. The reports do, on the other hand, provide us with the information that the suspect now has numerous additional charges added to the original list. These charges all stem from the incident on Friday, and include such things as aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, among other things.
It is not clear if any of the non-law-enforcement individuals whose cars were damaged in the collisions are pressing charges against the arrested individual or if they are waiting to see the outcome of the case.
