Single Car Crash Results in Fire in Ocala

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on June 10, 2019

Officials working within Ocala have issued a report regarding an auto accident that happened very early on the morning of Thursday, June 6th, that resulted in a car catching fire after it crashed into a power pole made out of cement. According to the reports, it was just before 4:00 in the morning when a vehicle crash was reported as having taken place somewhere along the 2200 block of East Silver Springs Boulevard.

While the reports failed to make entirely clear just what took place to cause the incident, it does seem clear that only one vehicle was involved in the collision. It is also believed that the vehicle contained only a single person, the driver, who was able to escape from the car following the crash.

The investigators have not stated whether or not they believe that excessive speed or alcohol may have contributed to the crash. It is also not clear if the initial call to the authorities was placed by the driver of the car or if there were witnesses to the incident who phoned the police to report the crash and subsequent fire.

When the police and fire officials from Ocala reached the crash site, they found a car on fire. The car had crashed into a cement power pole with enough force to dislodge two transformers that were sitting on top of the pole. These transformers fell onto the car, perhaps contributing to the fire that erupted shortly afterwards.

The driver told police that they had first tried to get out of the car via the front passenger window. At this time, the car had already started to burn, and time was running out. After they were unable to escape through the passenger window (it is not clear if this was due to the presence of the transformers, flames, or the driver’s inability to break the window), the driver moved to the back of the car. There, they were able to smash the rear window, which then allowed them to shimmy their way out of the flaming vehicle.

Although they escaped, the driver did suffer from some minor injuries. They were taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center for treatment.
