Single Car Crash Near Tampa on NYE Leaves One Dead

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on January 6, 2019

An auto accident near Tampa that took place on December 31st resulted in the death of one individual from Spring hill. It is not believed that anyone else was injured in the incident or that any other vehicles were involved in the single-car crash. At the time of this writing, an investigation into the accident is still underway, and the hope is that through the work of the Florida Highway Patrol the reasons for the crash will be understood.

We know that the 24-year-old driver was traveling along County Line Road in Hernando County sometime after 2:00 in the morning on Monday. It was while the driver began to draw nearer and nearer to the intersection of County Line Road and Oak Lane Drive that something happened to cause them to lose control of the car. Based on the evidence present at the scene, the authorities were able to reconstruct much of the events leading up to the crash.

Unable to regain control of the 2001 Mercury Sable, the driver and the car departed from the western lanes and began to drive along the shoulder. Before the driver could wrestle the car back onto the road, they collided with a utility pole that was located along the northern shoulder of the street. After the collision with the pole, the car continued to travel until it struck an embankment that lies along the eastern edge of Oak Lane Drive. After this second collision the car bounced back towards the roadway and overturned, coming to its final rest while lying in the center of Oak Lane Drive.

It is not clear who alerted the emergency response crews to this accident, but we do know that emergency vehicles from around the county rushed to the area in order to try and administer medical aid to the person trapped inside the car. Unfortunately, the degree of the injuries suffered by the 24-year-old were more severe than the emergency medical crews could treat and they were declared dead at the scene.

The Florida Highway Patrol has stated that alcohol was not a contributing factor to the incident.
