Orlando Man Killed in Solo Accident along Lakeville Road
A gruesome car accident along Lakeville Road during the early hours of Sunday morning has left one individual dead and an investigation ongoing.
According to the report filed by the Florida Highway Patrol, a 44-year-old Orlando resident named Anthony Hanks was headed south on Lakeville Road when the incident occurred, close to 12:30 in the morning. For reasons unknown, Hanks’ car drifted out of the southbound lanes and into the northbound. Crossing completely over the northbound lane, Hanks’ car collided with the guardrail along the north side of the road. Due to the impact, Hanks was thrown part way from the car: his torso hanging down from the open window and his waist and legs still within the vehicle.
The force also caused the car to lurch back towards the southbound lanes. It is not known the condition of Hanks at this time, and it is not clear whether or not any witnesses saw what happened next, but it appears that Hanks was unable to get himself back into the vehicle or gain control of the vehicle once back in the southbound lane. Crossing the length of the road, Hanks’ car hit the southern guardrail. Once again, the impact caused the car to drift back towards the other side of the road. This time, when the car collided with the northbound lane’s guardrail, Hanks’ body was hanging out of the car, low enough so that he himself was positioned between the vehicle and the solid rail. The impact pinned his body between the two objects, likely killing him instantly.
The Florida Highway Patrol have not stated whether or not any toxicology tests have been conducted on the late Mr. Hanks, and there is no indication whether or not the authorities have any primary beliefs regarding the circumstances leading up to the death of Anthony Hanks. As of yet, no other vehicles are believed to have been involved in the accident, and the report does not indicate that any second parties were present during the time of the accident. As the investigation continues the Florida Highway Patrol will continue to release information.
