One Dead After Single Car Crash in Sumter County

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on March 5, 2019

It was just before 3:00 in the morning when a person driving a car down U.S. 301 was involved in a fatal auto accident after their car left the roadway and collided with a tree. Early reports from the Florida Highway Patrol indicated that the accident only involved a single vehicle, and that there was only one person inside of the car at the time of the accident. This person was the only fatality.

What we know so far is that a 20-year-old individual was behind the wheel of a 2004 Buick LeSabre and traveling down the southern lanes of U.S. 301. It was as the driver was nearing the intersection of U.S. 301 and Northeast 13th Avenue that something happened to cause them to lose control of the car. In the following moments, the car exited the road and merged onto the west shoulder. In an attempt to regain control of the car, the driver then pulled at the wheel, which caused the vehicle enter the roadway again, but at a sharp angle that the driver was not able to remedy. The LeSabre swiftly crossed all of the lanes of traffic, exited the road via the eastern shoulder, and then struck a tree head-on. After colliding with the tree the car rolled over.

It is not known if there were any witnesses to the incident of if it was not until sometime after the crash itself that someone stumbled upon the rolled car and called the police. We do know that the emergency response crews rushed to the area in the moments after the accident and that they did their best to offer medical aid to the person trapped within the vehicle. Unfortunately, and even though he was wearing a seatbelt, the severity of the injuries they sustained in the crash was more than his body could withstand and he was declared dead at the scene.

At the time of this writing, no other information regarding the incident has been released to the general public. It is not believed that any charges are pending, although it is also not clear what exactly caused the driver to swerve off of the road in the first place.
