Car Crashes into Orange County Retention Pond, Four Rescued

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on September 4, 2019

A car that crashed into a retention pond in Orange County contained four individuals, all of whom required assistance from the Maitland Fire Department when it came to escaping from the partially submerged vehicle. Reports from the Maitland Fire Department put the time of the car accident somewhere around 2:15 in the afternoon. It is not known if the area was suffering from inclement weather due to Hurricane Dorian or if the incident was the result of some other factors that led to the driver losing control of the vehicle and crashing into the pond.

In the moments leading up to the accident, a green four-door sedan was traveling close to the intersection of Pembrook Drive and Summit Tower Boulevard. The area where the car was traveling is located within Orange County, although it is not clear if it is also located within Maitland or if the Maitland Fire Department were simply the closest emergency response crews to the accident.

As stated above, it is not clear just what caused the car to leave the roadway and crash into the pond. Pictures from the incident show the sedan sitting in the middle of the pond, the water coming about halfway up the doors. In order to free the people trapped within the car, one end of a fire ladder was lain on top of the car’s trunk and the other on the grassy bank of the pond. A rescue worker then crossed the ladder and positioned themselves on the car’s roof while they helped one passenger at a time to climb out of a car window. Eventually, all of the car’s inhabitants were freed using this method.

It was not immediately clear in the report whether or not any of the individuals inside the vehicle suffered from any injuries as a result of the accident, although it is not believed that anyone required transportation to a hospital or treatment for any injuries at the scene of the incident itself. It is also not clear just who called the emergency response crew to the scene to begin with, or if any charges are currently pending against anyone involved.
