85-Year-Old Crashes Car Through Orange County Restaurant

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on January 21, 2019

On Tuesday, January 15th, diners who were enjoying a late lunch at a Chinese restaurant located within Orange County received a shock when a driver traveling down N. Hiawassee Road lost control of their vehicle, left the asphalt, and collided with the restaurant.

Precise details about the event are still being compiled by officials with the Orange County Fire Rescue as well as other investigators from around Orange County, but we do know that it was close to 2:00 in the afternoon when calls began arriving at the Orange County emergency dispatchers office reporting a collision between a car and a building within the Dragon City restaurant.

The restaurant, located at 2767 N. Hiawassee Road, was open at the time, and at least four employees were inside of the building when the incident occurred. The driver of the car, an 84-year-old woman who was not named in the initial report, lost control of the vehicle while traveling down N. Hiawassee Road. The reasons for this loss of control are not clear, but it is apparent that before she was able to regain control of the vehicle the car left the roadway, crossed a parking lot, and pierced the large front windows of Dragon City with its hood. The car traveled through the restaurant, coming to a stop just before Dragon City’s front counter.

Emergency response crews arrived at the restaurant shortly after the incident and began to tend to the individuals involved. Fortunately, it seems that no one was badly injured as a result of the car’s sudden intrusion. It is not even clear if anyone was actually eating at the time of the crash, meaning it is possible that the only individuals inside of the restaurant were the employees, all of whom were behind the counter or in the kitchen when the car sloughed through the windows and drive up to the order desk.

At the time of this writing, it is not known if any charges have been filed against the driver of the car. It is also not believed that they suffered from any injuries after crashing through the windows and into the restaurant.
