Woman Dies in Collier County Single-Car Crash

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on April 6, 2020

Reports are emerging from various Central and Southern Florida news agencies regarding a fatal single-car crash within Collier County on Wednesday, April 1st. What we know at this time comes courtesy of the Florida Highway Patrol, members of which organization were on hand shortly after the accident itself and are currently heading the investigation into the incident.

It was during the early morning of Wednesday, sometime close to 1:00 a.m. when a 34-year-old from Lake Mary was driving their vehicle down Interstate 75 within Collier County. It is believed that the woman was alone in her vehicle and that she was not wearing a seatbelt.

As they neared mile marker 105, it appears as though they began to exit Interstate 75 in order to merge onto an entrance ramp that connects I-75 with Golden Gate Parkway. It was during this time that something happened to cause the driver to lose control of their Toyota Camry, swerve off of the entrance ramp’s left side, and overturn. At some point, either before or after the car flipped, it also crossed over all of I-75’s northern lanes.

As the car careened off of the entrance ramp, rolled over, and shot across northbound I-75, the driver was violently ejected from the vehicle. It is not known where she came to rest on the ground, but it is believed that she remained there until the emergency response crews reached the area.

Who exactly notified first responders about the crash and how long it was after the accident itself is not known. The reports did state that when the paramedics and EMTs reached the location of the accident, the driver of the Camry was still alive, although quite seriously injured. The driver was carefully loaded into an ambulance and then rushed from the area of the crash to Physicians Regional Pine Ridge. It was sometime after arriving at the emergency medical facility that they were declared dead.

An investigation into the incident remains ongoing. It is not believed that any charges are currently pending in this case. It is also not currently suspected that any other vehicles were involved in the single-car crash.
