Wet Roadway Causes Fatal Single-Car Crash Near Tampa
A wet roadway is currently being held responsible for a fatal car accident that took place close to Tampa early in September. While an investigation into the incident rains ongoing, the reports from the Florida Highway Patrol working within the town of Wesley Chapel have reason to believe that the events that took place on a Tuesday in the second week of September have more to do with the conditions of the roadway than they do with any particular motorist.
Close to 6:30 in the evening, shortly before the accident in question, a 37-year-old invidious was behind the wheel of their car and traveling down Boyette Road. The driver, a Wesley Chapel resident, was driving along the northern lanes of Boyette Road. It is not clear if it was raining at this time or if the rain had fallen earlier in the day, but we do know that when the driver was making their way down the road, the asphalt was damp.
Due to exhaust, leaking pipes, and a variety of other issues, roadways are coated in a layer of oil. When rain falls, especially during the first few minutes, it lifts this oil up from the grooves and cracks, a process which causes the road to become far more slippery than normal. Even the best of drivers can be caught unaware by a slick roadway and cause them to momentarily lose control of the vehicle.
It was as the driver was still making their way down the roadway that the authorities believe just such a situation occurred.
As a result, the car spun off of the roadway and into an iron fence standing nearby. The vehicle was traveling at a fairly significant rate of speed before the driver lost control, and the collision with the fence didn’t cause the vehicle to stop. Instead, the car was then slung into both a tree and another fence, this one made out of wood.
Despite the fact that they were wearing their seatbelt, the driver within the car sustained severe injuries as a result of these collisions. When the authorities, including medical personnel arrived, there was nothing they could do. The man was declared dead at the scene of the crash.
