Two People Killed in Fatal Florida Turnpike Auto Accident
A two-car crash that took place along an Orange County stretch of the Florida Turnpike on Friday, December 21st, left one person dead and two people, including one young child, injured. The current reports from the Florida Highway Patrol indicate that the incident took place within the southern lanes of the Florida Turnpike, close to the 258th mile marker. This location is also quite near to Walt Disney World. Finally, it is believed that the accident happened at close to 12:35 in the afternoon.
It is believed that witnesses to the incident supplied much of the current information about the crash. These witnesses stated that a Toyota 4Runner was driving in an extremely dangerous way along the Florida Turnpike. During their race down the busy roadway, they exited the roadway to travel along the shoulder of the turnpike in order to try and pass slower traffic. It was while they were attempting to reenter the roadway that the driver lost control of Toyota.
In the following moments, the Toyota struck a Volkswagen’s left side. This crash threw the Toyota back into the shoulder and into the guardrail. The Toyota then began to overturn, coming to a stop only after flipping numerous times. It is not clear who called the emergency response crews, but they arrived at the scene of the crash shortly after the incident took place. Tending to the numerous people who were injured, they were forced to declare the driver of the Toyota, a 44-year-old, dead at the scene of the incident. An 11-year-old child was badly injured in the crash and was airlifted from the crash site to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. It is not clear if the child was traveling in the Toyota or if they were a passenger of the Volkswagen. The driver of the Volkswagen, a 21-year-old, experienced only minor injuries. It is not believed that they required any hospitalization or medical treatment other than what they were able to receive at the hands of the paramedics and EMTs who rushed to the area after the reports of an accident began to reach emergency dispatchers.
