RSSTwo Injured, One Killed in Unusual Orange County Auto Accident
At approximately 4:15 p.m. this past Tuesday, November 15th, 2019, a bit of an uncommon auto accident occurred at an Orange County residence which claimed the life of one man and left two others injured after a vehicle crashed through their home’s garage.
According to initial incident reports from the Florida Highway Patrol, a four-door BMW being driven by 68-year old Luz Silverio Gomez, was attempting to pull into her driveway on Chipola Circle when she mistakenly pressed the car’s accelerator instead of its brakes. The force of impact caused the vehicle to crash through the garage, which had been converted into a living space. This is where the victims were located at the time of the deadly collision.
Orange County Fire and Rescue teams arrived on-site to find three victims, one of which was in serious condition. This man was the driver’s 49-year-old neighbor who had also been renting a room at the house where the fatal accident occurred. Emergency personnel began to administer life-saving techniques and continued while the ambulance was en route to Orlando Regional Medical Center. Unfortunately, his injuries were too severe and he passed away. The other two victims were treated for minor injuries, and have since been released from the hospital. Both the driver and the passenger of the car were uninjured.
“These kinds of scenes remind you that life is incredibly short and it’s a gift. Our heart goes out to the family – the driver, the husband who was a passenger, and obviously the family and the neighbors have some difficult times ahead and sympathize with that,” stated FHP Lieutenant Mark Castleberry in a press release.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this tragic accident, however, an investigation is still ongoing.
