Two-Car Crash Injures Five in Orange County
Authorities with the Florida Highway Patrol are still trying to determine whether or not formal charges will be filed against a 38-year-old man from Maryland who clipped the front-end of a dump truck last Saturday morning causing it to overturn and spill its contents all over State Road 417 in Orange County.
According to initial collision reports from the responding troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol working within Orange County, it was shortly before 10:30 a.m. on July 9, 2022, when a 38-year-old Maryland resident and his three young passengers were traveling in a Hyundai Elantra in the northbound direction of State Road 417. As the sedan approached mile marker 7 near the John Young Parkway Toll Plaza, the 38-year-old driver performed an improper lane change from the inside to the outside lane. This illegal maneuver positioned the Elantra in the direct path of a 54-year-old man driving a dump truck. Both drivers did their best to avoid a collision, but the Elantra ultimately ended up crashing into the front passenger’s side of the dump truck.
Immediately after the auto accident occurred, the dump truck rolled over onto its side and slid into a concrete barrier and a guardrail. The impact from all three collisions caused the dump truck’s contents, piles of construction debris, to be scattered all over the highway.
Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol indicated that the 38-year-old man from Maryland who was driving the Hyundai Elantra, as well as his 9-year-old, 15-year-old, and 16-year-old passengers, received minor injuries during the accident but were not transported to the hospital. The 54-year-old man from Orlando who was driving the dump truck at the time of the crash was taken to a local medical facility for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
