Toddler Killed During a Two-Car Collision Thursday Morning in Orlando
An official investigation has been opened by the Orlando Police Department surrounding the tragic circumstances of a two-car crash that led to the severe injury of an 8-year-old child and the death of a 2-year-old toddler Thursday morning in front of the Enclave at Lake Underhill apartments.
According to the traffic homicide investigators at the Orlando Police Department, officers were dispatched to the Enclave at Lake Underhill apartment complex shortly after midnight on December 2, 2021, after a resident called 9-1-1 regarding an auto accident involving injuries. Preliminary reports indicate that a Toyota Camry carrying a female driver and her two children, a 2-year-old and an 8-year-old, was involved in a collision with a Lincoln MKZ close to the 4100 block of Lake Underhill Road near Conway Road. The specific details of who was at fault are currently unknown.
Although the 2-year-old was able to be extracted from the Camry by first responders with the Orlando Police Department, the 8-year-old was trapped inside the vehicle until members of the Orlando Fire Department arrived at the scene. Using specialized equipment, firefighters were able to successfully remove the child from the mangled Toyota. Both of the young children were transported as trauma alerts to the Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, however, due to the severity of the injuries sustained by the 2-year-old during the accident, they were unable to survive and passed away upon arrival. The 8-year-old remains in the hospital with critical life-threatening injuries. The mother and driver of the Lincoln were also taken to local medical facilities. At the time of this writing, they are both expected to survive.
Detectives with the Orlando Police Department worked the accident scene for nearly five hours before gathering enough evidence for their investigation. Additional details about this fatal car accident are expected to be released to the public at a later date once the case has come to a conclusion.
