Three Killed in Titusville Rollover were Department of Corrections Officers

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on June 16, 2020

In an update to a story we reported on earlier this month, it appears as though the four adults and one 9-year-old child who were involved in a fatal rollover accident close to the city of Titusville on Thursday, June 11th, were on their way to fish somewhere along the coast when the fatal accident took place. Additionally, it appears as though all three of the adults were members of the Florida Department of Corrections. It is not clear where the three were stationed, and it is still not clear what relationship the 9-year-old girl had with them.

As we reported earlier, the accident took place early in the morning as the three adults and the 9-year-old were traveling within a 2004 Ford Expedition down the northern lanes of Interstate 95. As they passed the area where an access ramp from State Road 407 merges onto I-95, a Kia SUV entered the roadway via the ramp.

What exactly happened remains unclear, but we know that the SUV and the Ford Expedition collided. The force of the crash caused the driver of the Ford to lose control of the vehicle which resulted in the Ford overturning multiple times.

Two of the corrections officers within the Ford, a 28-year-old from Sebastian and a 44-year-old from Orlando, were not wearing seatbelts and were subsequently ejected from the vehicle. They both suffered from fatal injuries as a result and were declared dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time, also suffered from fatal injuries as a result of the crash and rollover. Only the 9-year-old, also seat-belted, suffered from injuries that were severe, although they did survive the initial accident. It is believed that they were transported from the scene of the crash and are receiving treatment at a hospital.

The driver of the Kia was not injured in the incident.

The reasons behind the crash remain under investigation as members of the Florida Highway Patrol attempt to gain additional witnesses to the incident who can offer insight on what exactly happened to cause such a devastating incident.
