Teenager Survives Fatal Brevard County Rollover Crash
The Florida Highway Patrol is currently investigating a fatal SUV rollover collision that happened in Brevard County on Thursday, June 11th. The crash happened early in the morning, close to 5:30, and involved two vehicles. One of the vehicles, a 2004 Ford Expedition, was holding four people at the time of the crash – three adults and one 15-year-old. The relationship between the child and the three adults is not currently known.
The Ford Expedition was traveling down the northern lanes of Interstate 95 shortly before the crash. Where the four individuals were traveling to at such an early hour was not immediately clear from the initial reports on the incident, and it is hoped that further updates to the story will provide such information even though it may not be essential to the case. It was as the Ford was nearing the intersection of I-95 and State Road 407 that a Kia SUV merged onto the highway.
It is not clear exactly why this happened, but the reports indicated that as the Kia merged onto the highway it struck the Ford Expedition. Again, it is hoped that future updates to the story will provide information on why exactly the two cars collided. In particular, it is hoped that updates will shed light on whether it was the fault of the merging driver or if perhaps the driver of the Ford was the one responsible.
The force of the crash caused the Ford to overturn and roll several times. Two of the passengers within the Ford, a 28-year-old Sebastian resident and a 44-year-old from Orlando were thrown from the vehicle. Both of these individuals were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The driver of the Ford, a 40-year-old from Vero Beach also suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash.
The 15-year-old, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was injured in the incident and transported to a nearby hospital. It is believed that she is currently recovering.
The 53-year-old Lakeland resident behind the wheel of the Kia was not injured in the incident. It is not believed that there was anyone else within the Kia other than the driver.
Four hours after the collision took place I-95 reopened. Currently, police are looking for witnesses to come forward in order to offer them more information about the incident.
