Tampa Officer Severely Injured During Car vs. Motorcycle Crash
An officer with the Tampa Police Department will start his long road to recovery this holiday season after he was seriously injured yesterday morning during a two-vehicle accident along Adamo Drive in Hillsborough County.
According to preliminary collision reports, it was close to 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2022, when a 38-year-old officer with the Tampa Police Department was driving his company-issued motorcycle in the eastern direction of Adamo Drive in the Ybor City historic neighborhood of Tampa. As the officer, whose name has not been released to the public, approached the intersection of Adamo Drive and North 26th Street, a 54-year-old woman entered the area driving a red Honda Accord.
“The road was full of cars and I had no visibility to see there. So, another driver told me to cross with my car and I did it because nobody gave me the chance to go through,” the 54-year-old driver told authorities. After being waved through the intersection by another motorist, she proceeded forward and slammed into the officer’s motorcycle in the process.
Multiple emergency response teams with the Tampa Police Department were dispatched to the scene of the car vs. motorcycle crash and immediately transported the severely injured officer to Tampa General Hospital. His current condition is unknown, but it is believed that he sustained a fractured femur in the accident.
The 54-year-old driver of the Honda Accord remained at the crash site after the collision occurred and was said to be in full cooperation with the Tampa Police Department. She was cited for her involvement in the accident.
