T-Bone Collision Kills One, Severely Injures Another in Orange County
Preliminary reports from members of the Florida Highway Patrol working in Orange County state that a female resident of Orlando lost her life over the weekend during a two-car crash near a busy intersection in Pine Hills.
According to the responding troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol, it was close to 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2022, when a 57-year-old woman from Orlando was behind the wheel of a 2012 Honda Accord and heading in the eastbound direction of Silver Star Road. As she approached the street’s intersection with Powers Drive, she pulled into the left-turn lane at the traffic light, which had just turned yellow. The Orlando woman drove through the intersection in an attempt to proceed north on Powers Drive and in doing so, she positioned her vehicle in the oncoming path of a 31-year-old man from Ocoee who was driving a 2019 Ford Mustang that was traveling west on Silver Star Road. Unable to avoid a collision with the Accord, the Mustang crashed into the passenger side of the 57-year-old woman’s car.
Since the Ford Mustang was traveling at a higher rate of speed when the auto accident occurred, the force from the impact of the collision propelled the Honda Accord across the roadway and into an electrical pole before finally coming to a complete stop after crashing into a Nissan Infiniti sedan that was unoccupied at the time.
Orange County emergency medical teams and officers with the Florida Highway Patrol showed up at the scene of the accident within a matter of minutes. Upon their arrival, they immediately transported the 57-year-old woman and her 32-year-old passenger, who also sustained severe injuries during the collision, to a local hospital. Sadly, the woman did not survive her life-threatening injuries and she passed away. The passenger’s current condition is unknown. The driver of the Mustang suffered minor injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.
