Snapchat Now at Center of Fatal St. Cloud Crash Investigation

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on May 22, 2020

In an update to an accident that took place last year, it appears as though the popular cell phone app Snapchat is now at the center of an investigation into a fatal collision that took place within St. Cloud late last October.

It was shortly after midnight on October 26th, 2019, that dispatchers within Osceola County began to receive reports of a violent crash at the intersection of Nolte Road and Michigan Avenue. When police officers, paramedics, and other emergency first responders reached the area they found a fairly grim scene. The two cars involved had collided heavily with one another, causing extreme damage to the vehicles as well as corresponding damage to those who were inside of the cars at the time of the crash.

Inside one of the cars, a single 20-year-old individual was injured and transferred from the scene to a nearby hospital. Inside the other car was a 40-year-old and 15-year-old. It is believed that the collision was so aggressive that both of these individuals died in the crash itself. When the paramedics reached the scene, there was nothing that they could do for the two.

During a subsequent investigation, it was revealed that the 20-year-old individual was unaware of how fast they were traveling because the speedometer within their car was broken. It is also believed that this individual was driving with a suspended license at the time that the crash took place.

It has taken a while for the investigation into this incident to make headway, but it appears as though an officer involved in the investigation was friends on social media with the 20-year-old and told authorities that this person had taken and uploaded a Snapchat video moments before the fatal collision took place.

While no conclusive evidence around this fact exists, it appears as though the investigators believe that the driver of the car was likely distracted by their phone and their Snapchat video, a factor which could have caused them to not notice the other vehicle on the road.

It is believed that the information regarding the video will strongly affect the outcome of the investigation.
