Six People Injured in Two-Car Crash Near Orlando International Airport
A group of family members travelling back to Chicago after enjoying a dream vacation at Disney World have suffered a staggering setback in their journey after many of them were involved in a near-fatal car crash earlier this week. Authorities with the Florida Highway Patrol and local Orange County law enforcement officials are currently investigating this serious auto accident that occurred on May 5th, 2021, near the Orlando International Airport which injured 6 people, including two small children and one infant.
According to preliminary collision reports from the Orange County Fire Rescue and the Florida Highway Patrol, it was approximately 2 p.m. this past Wednesday when dispatchers were alerted to an auto accident involving two vehicles located northwest of the Orlando International Airport at the intersection of Daetwyler Drive and Jetport Drive. Witness statements retrieved at the scene of the crash stated that a black sedan was travelling in the direction of the airport when a silver vehicle entered the vicinity of the busy intersection. For reasons that are unknown at this time, the driver of the silver vehicle proceeded to disregard the red traffic light, blew through the intersection, and crashed into the black sedan.
Within minutes of the initial 9-1-1 call, emergency responders with the Orange County Fire Rescue arrived at the accident site to find three adults and three children suffering from varying injuries requiring immediate medical assistance. An infant, a 7-year-old, and one other young child were transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital as pediatric alerts with traumatic injuries. Although one adult was able to receive treatment at the scene, two injured occupants had to be taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center for further assessment and evaluation.
Thankfully, everyone involved in this collision is said to be in stable condition, as indicated by a press release to the media. Since this investigation is still classified as ongoing, it is unclear if the driver of the silver vehicle will face any legal consequences or ramifications as a result of this accident.
