Sanford Man Killed During T-Bone Crash on State Road 429
According to early details from local law enforcement agencies in Seminole County, one person was killed and two others were injured during a T-bone collision along State Road 429 last Saturday morning.
Initial auto accident reports from the Florida Highway Patrol working within Seminole County indicate that it was close to 3:41 a.m. on June 10, 2023, when a 51-year-old man from Sanford was driving a 2019 Kia Optima sedan in the northbound inside lane of State Road 429. Traveling directly behind this vehicle was a 41-year-old woman from West Palm Beach driving a 2017 Kia Sportage SUV with her 41-year-old male passenger, also a resident of West Palm Beach.
As the sedan and SUV approached the vicinity of mile marker 51, the driver of the sport utility vehicle suddenly lost control of their vehicle and crossed over into the center median dividing State Road 429. Officials indicate that the driver of the SUV overcorrected back onto the highway, which positioned the Kia Sportage in the direct path of the oncoming Kia Optima. Neither driver could avoid a collision and the sedan crashed into the right side of the SUV.
The momentum from the accident propelled the SUV across all northbound lanes of traffic and into a concrete safety barrier before finally coming to a complete stop. The sedan came to a rest on the shoulder of the road.
Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol and Seminole County first responders were dispatched to the scene of the two-vehicle crash and transported the two occupants of the SUV to HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital with minor injuries. Both individuals were believed to be wearing their seatbelts when the accident occurred.
The 51-year-old Sanford man was also taken to a nearby hospital but passed away from his injuries a short time later. Officials have stated that he was not wearing a seatbelt prior to the collision.
This case remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. No formal charges have been filed.
