Pedestrian Struck and Killed on Colonial Drive in Orlando

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on November 15, 2019

An Orlando crash that took place in the early days of November resulted in the death of an individual in Orlando as well as a continued investigation into the incident by the Florida Highway Patrol. Reports from the scene of the accident stated that it began sometime around 8:00 in the evening of Tuesday, November 12th, as the trajectory of a 2002 Subaru began to near the path taken by a pedestrian who was walking along Colonial Drive.

It is not entirely clear at this point whether or not the pedestrian was walking on a sidewalk at the time, and it is also not clear if the authorities are looking into whether or not excessive speed, alcohol, or some other factors may have played any role in the incident. What we do know is that the pedestrian was walking along the western lane of Colonial Drive when they decided to try and cross the roadway. The reports failed to state whether or not there was much traffic on the road at this time or if the pedestrian had reason to believe that the roadway was clear enough to cross.

Most importantly, however, was the mention in the report that the pedestrian was not using a crosswalk at the time when they attempted to navigate over the roadway. The area where the man tried to cross is located at the intersection of Colonial Drive and Harrell Road, but it was not at all clear whether or not the area features a crosswalk of any sort. The reports did imply that the intersection features a light, however, and this light is believed to have been greet for vehicles traveling along Colonial Drive at the time when the man in question attempted to cross.

The driver of the car was not able to avoid the sudden entrance of the pedestrian into their lane of traffic and, as a result, struck the individual while they were still in the roadway. The injuries sustained by the pedestrian were severe, and emergency medical crews were not able to offer any sort of assistance. The pedestrian was declared dead at the scene of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
