Pedestrian Severely Injured During Titusville Hit-and-Run Crash
Officials with the Titusville Police Department are being commended for their quick actions over the weekend after they successfully located the driver believed to be responsible for a hit-and-run collision on Knox McRae Drive in Brevard County.
On Sunday, January 15, 2023, at approximately 8:45 p.m., 26-year-old Titusville resident Nathaniel Anthony Nanan was driving a beige 2013 Toyota Corolla in the westbound direction of Knox McRae Drive, according to early incident reports from authorities with the Titusville Police Department. At this same time, a male pedestrian, whose name has not been released to the public, attempted to walk across Knox McRae Drive near South Hopkins Avenue from the southern direction and was struck by the oncoming Toyota Corolla, which fled the scene immediately after the collision occurred.
Brevard County emergency responders and officers with the Titusville Police Department were dispatched to the crash site and EMS teams immediately transported the critically-injured pedestrian to a local hospital with a “significant head wound” and multiple broken bones.
The alleged hit-and-run driver, Nathaniel Anthony Nanan, was arrested without issue just a few blocks away near the 3400th block of Barna Avenue. He was taken into custody and faces multiple charges, including failure to stop/remain at the scene of a crash involving serious injury and operating a vehicle with a canceled/suspended/revoked driver’s license.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to do it. It was an accident. I know I should have stopped, but I was just scared,” Nanan said in a statement to officers. He is currently being held at the Brevard County Jail on a $35,000 bond. After his first court appearance Monday morning, Nanan received a no-driving order from Judge Charles Crawford. “Do not drive any motorized vehicle on planet Earth,” he said, while also indicating that Nanan’s hit-and-run charges could be upgraded if the pedestrian does not survive his injuries.
