Pedestrian Killed During Hit-and-Run Crash in Temple Terrace
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has been working around the clock for the past twenty-four hours trying to sift through the small amounts of evidence left behind after a pedestrian was struck and killed by at least one vehicle yesterday morning on Morris Bridge Road.
Although the investigation into this fatal pedestrian accident is still in its early stages, authorities with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office have stated that it was approximately 5 a.m. on June 29, 2022, when a vehicle with an unknown driver was traveling down Morris Bridge Road. As the vehicle approached the intersection of Morris Bridge Road and Tampa Oaks Boulevard, it struck a pedestrian and fled the crash site. Officers believe that after an undetermined amount of time had passed, a second vehicle said to possibly be silver or gray in color, entered the area and ran the pedestrian over. This driver also left the scene of the accident. Finally, a third motorist noticed the badly injured victim and pulled their vehicle over to call for emergency services.
Hillsborough County emergency response teams arrived at the scene of the accident within a matter of minutes and sadly discovered that the pedestrian had suffered severe injuries during the incident and had already passed away. The victim’s name has not been released to the public, however, a local news outlet has reported that a representative from a nearby assisted living facility indicated that the pedestrian was one of their male residents. The police have yet to confirm this particular detail about the case.
“While our detectives continue to review surveillance video to seek justice for this victim and their family, I want to remind all drivers that it is a felony offense to leave the scene of a crash with injuries, whether you are at fault or not. Please do the right thing and call law enforcement if you find yourself in a situation like that. It’s legally, and morally, the right thing to do,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister in a statement to the press.
