Passenger Ejected After Rear-End Crash on Lake Jesup Bridge in Seminole County
Seminole County authorities are currently investigating a deadly rear-end collision that claimed the life of one individual and seriously injured four others Sunday morning along State Road 417 on the Lake Jesup Bridge.
According to early incident reports from members of the Florida Highway Patrol, it was approximately 1:20 a.m. on April 3, 2022, when a Toyota Scion transporting four people was traveling in the southbound direction within the right lane of S.R. 417. As the Toyota approached the vicinity of mile marker 46 in Seminole County, a 2019 Mercedes SUV being driven by a 39-year-old man from Orlando quickly entered the area at a high rate of speed and crashed into the back of the Scion.
The incredible force from the rear-end collision propelled the Toyota into a safety wall lining the Lake Jesup Bridge which then caused the vehicle to spin out of control across the road and into another wall located along the opposite lane. As soon as the car crashed into the second bridge barrier, a passenger within the Scion was thrown out of the vehicle’s back window and into the waters of Lake Jesup.
Although officers with the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office and troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol arrived at the scene of the crash within a matter of minutes and were able to successfully locate the male victim in the water, he was unable to survive the severe nature of his injuries and was pronounced dead by local emergency teams. The driver of the Toyota, as well as two other passengers, suffered a variety of injuries during the collision, but details surrounding further medical assistance are unknown at this time. The driver of the Mercedes reportedly sustained minor injuries and faces pending charges for his connection to the fatal accident.
