Osteen Officials Continue Their Search for S.R. 415 Hit-and-Run Suspect
After over a week’s worth of exhaustive efforts investigating this tragic auto accident, authorities with the Florida Highway Patrol working within Volusia County are now reaching out to the public for any information that could lead to the whereabouts of the hit-and-run suspect or their vehicle.
According to incident reports from the initial collision, it was close to 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, when 42-year-old Sanford resident Michael Berry was visiting a roadside memorial dedicated to his friend who was killed two years prior at that very spot during a motorcycle accident. As Mr. Berry was busy paying his respects on the grassy median located along State Road 415 near Osteen-Maytown Road in Osteen, a motorist approached from the northbound direction of the highway. This yet-to-be-identified driver struck the 42-year-old pedestrian and fled the scene toward Parkinson Boulevard.
There were no witnesses to the fatal hit-and-run crash.
“That’s how he would talk to him, kneeling down,” said the victim’s family member. Motorcycle enthusiasts and best friends until the very end, Michael Berry and Mike Roscoe first met when Roscoe worked as an auctioneer transporting vehicles to local dealerships – one of which was Berry’s place of employment. From there, the two formed a brotherly bond that would not be broken until October 2021, when Mike Roscoe was killed after he was struck by two vehicles while riding his motorcycle on State Road 415. “I’m reliving it all over again,” said Mr. Roscoe’s surviving partner in a statement to the press.
A GoFundMe account has been created on behalf of Michael Berry and his family in order to cover funeral costs and any other unforeseeable expenses related to the death of their loved one.
