Orlando Pedestrian Dies After Deadly Hit-and-Run Crash Involving Two Cars
Officers with the Florida Highway Patrol and additional law enforcement agencies in Orange County are currently investigating the death of a 64-year-old pedestrian after he was struck by two separate vehicles late Wednesday evening while walking along Pine Hills Road in Orlando.
According to preliminary collision reports from responding officials with the Florida Highway Patrol, it was close to 11:30 p.m. on August 4, 2021, when 64-year-old Charles Nathan Bartee was walking down Pine Hills Road near Belco Drive and attempted to cross the street outside of the nearby intersection’s designated pedestrian crosswalk area. As he stepped out onto the busy roadway, he was struck by a white four-door Toyota and a BMW that were both driving in the southern direction of Pine Hills Road.
Almost immediately after their collision with the 64-year-old, the driver of the Toyota sedan fled the scene of the accident. The driver of the BMW remained at the crash site and was able to assist Florida Highway Patrol detectives with a detailed description of the offending vehicle, which sustained severe front-end damage during the hit-and-run accident.
Orange County emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene within a matter of minutes, however, due to the incredibly severe nature of the pedestrian’s injuries, he was unable to survive and passed away before medical assistance could be administered.
As of Thursday, authorities with the Florida Highway Patrol were able to track down the alleged vehicle involved in the deadly collision after a keen-eyed Orlando resident contacted their local office. “Thanks to an alert citizen in Orlando that called law enforcement, troopers think they have the 2021 Toyota Camry that struck and killed a 64-year-old man last night,” the FHP said in a statement to the media. Although they have been working diligently to identify the driver of the Toyota, their efforts have been unsuccessful to this point.
