Orlando Man Dies after Crash into Orange County Pond

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on September 30, 2018

On Wednesday, September 26th, a 69-year-old man from Orlando was behind the wheel of a 2001 Toyota SUV and driving down one of the southern lanes of Landstar Boulevard in Orange County. As they neared the intersection of Landstar Boulevard and Misley Drive, something happened within the SUV to cause the man to lose control of the vehicle. According to reports from the Florida Highway Patrol, it was shortly after 6:00 in the morning when the auto accident was reported, and that its location was just south of State Road 417.

It is not clear who contacted the emergency response teams in regard to the incident, and it is also not known at what exact time the accident happened. While we know that the emergency response teams were contacted shortly after 6:00, it is not clear if the investigators believe the crash happened around that time or if it took place at some unknown prior period of time.

The area where the man was driving is located near to a retention pond. After the man lost control of the vehicle, the car departed from the roadway and crashed into the pond. Somehow, the car also overturned during this process, leaving the top of the car completely submerged underneath the water’s surface.

As stated above, it is not known for just how long the driver of the vehicle was inside of the car before the police were contacted. We do know that when the emergency response teams arrived at the location there was nothing that could be done for the trapped man and he was declared dead at the scene.

While the police investigated the accident, a large portion of Landstar Boulevard’s southern lanes were shut down. It is not clear for how long the investigation lasted until the authorities deemed it appropriate to re-open the area, and it is also not clear what information was uncovered during the investigation of the incident.

We do know that the driver of the SUV was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, although it is not clear if this was a help or a hindrance in this particular situation.
