Orange County Man Saves Stranger after Auto Accident

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on August 27, 2018

A well-placed surveillance camera was able to record the actions of a local hero for posterity after the person in question rescued a stranger who had driven their car into a retention pond located in Orange County after being involved in an auto accident. Official news reports indicate that the incident took place on Saturday, August 18th, although there is no official indication of what time the incident occurred.

We do know that the event involved at least three people and at least two cars, and although precise information relating to the incident itself is scant, it does seem certain that the car that crashed into the retention pond did so after colliding with another vehicle.

It was while driving down North Avalon Park Boulevard that the incident which preceded the crash into the pond happened. No information currently exists on the nature of this incident, although it does appear that whatever sort of crash took place it was severe enough to cause a 76-year-old man to completely lose control of their car and leave the roadway. It is not clear just how close to the roadway the retention pond lies, but it does seem certain that it was after striking the first car that the 76-year-old’s car flew off of the road and landed in the pond.

After all of this happened, a witness to the event leapt into action. It is not clear if this person was also in a vehicle at the time of the crash or if they were simply nearby, perhaps even in their home, and able to help. According to their statement, they clearly saw the 76-year-old man’s car leave the roadway, jump a curb, and crash into the water. The person then states that they ran from their location to the pond, leapt in, and retrieved the man trapped within their vehicle.

At the time of this writing, the 76-year-old is recovering well and it does not appear that he suffered from any severe injuries as a result of the crash. It is likely due to the fast acting of the Orange County resident that this is the case.

No news on the collision itself has reached us, and it is not clear if the incident is under investigation and if any charges are expected to result from the crash.
