Orange County Father Severely Injured During Hit-and-Run Crash in Orlando
The relatives and friends of an Orange County man are desperately seeking answers after their loved one was severely injured during a road rage incident that led to a hit-and-run collision last Thursday evening on Miami Road in Orlando.
According to the ongoing investigation being performed by local authorities, Jessica Myers, the victim’s fiancé, was on her way home from work in the family’s vehicle on Colonial Drive when another motorist in a blue Acura seemingly appeared out of nowhere and allegedly began driving erratically. “This blue Acura cut me off. He was swerving in my lane. He was brake-checking me. I got next to him and I was like, ‘What is wrong with you?’ He proceeded to throw something at my car,” she said in a statement to police. Myers goes on to say that the driver continued this bizarre behavior while following behind her for nearly 7 miles until she pulled up to her residence located on Miami Road.
Before she reached her destination, Myers said that she called her future husband, Matthew Gerren, to let him know what was going on. At that point, Gerren, along with his 15-year-old son Michael, went outside onto the front lawn to meet Myers and make sure she was safe from the problematic driver of the blue Acura. Surveillance footage from a neighbor’s home security system showed that when both vehicles arrived at the family’s home, the driver of the Acura came to a complete stop before revving his engine and intentionally driving forward into Gerren. The force from the impact of the collision propelled Gerren through the Acura’s windshield. Right after the crash occurred, the driver of the Acura puts his vehicle into reverse and stepped on the gas pedal in order to throw the victim from the front of his car. The entire altercation was also recorded on a cell phone video captured by Gerren.
Although Matthew Garren survived the auto accident, his path to recovery will not be an easy one. He sustained a broken back, broken wrist, and multiple lacerations and contusions during the collision and remains in the ICU at the time of this writing.
Officers with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office are requesting the public’s assistance with the identification of the male driver in the blue Acura. If you have any information, please contact your local police department.
