Orange County Crash Results in Serious Injury for Five Men
A crash near at the intersection of Edgewater Drive and Edgewater Shores Court in the Lockhart area sent five men to the hospital Thursday night. Police report that a Chevrolet SUV driven by Joseph Salustro, of Orlando, was travelling west on Edgewater Shores Court when he drove over railroad tracks and lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle struck a van driven by 23-year-old Christopher Greaney, who was sitting at the stop sign at the intersection of Edgewater Drive and Edgewater Shores Court.
According to authorities, the force of the impact threw the two vehicles through a wooden fence nearby. Three other passengers in Greaney’s van: Michael Alexander, 55, Madeline McGarry, 21 and Charles Rentz, 28, were also seriously injured in the accident. All five men were taken to the Orlando Regional Medical Center immediately following the incident. The cause of the accident is unknown at this time and it is not known if alcohol is a factor pending results from blood work obtained from Salustro. Police also do not know if any of the victims were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
Unfortunately, accidents like this occur all too often on Orlando area streets. This latest incident seems to be yet another situation where innocent people are injured through no fault of their own while waiting at an intersection. Even the best driver cannot foresee every hazard he or she will encounter on the road. However, everyone can take steps to avoid many potential dangers, and protect themselves and their loved ones in case of an accident. Staying alert and monitoring your surroundings, avoiding texting or taking phone calls while driving, and always buckling up are good driving habits we should all practice when we get behind the wheel. By taking these small, easy precautions we minimize the dangers of others’ unsafe driving behaviors.
