One Dead, Two Injured in Osceola County Crash
A two-car collision resulted in the death of an 87-year-old man from Kissimmee on the night of Sunday, October 20th. Reports from the Florida Highway Patrol stated that the incident took place sometime close to 10:00 at night, when a Hyundai Elantra collided with the right side of a Toyota Camry.
Shortly before the accident, a 17-year-old from Kissimmee was driving the Camry down either Centerview Boulevard or Greenwald Way. In the passenger seat of the Camry was an 87-year-old individual, also from Kissimmee. The relationship between these two is not officially clear at the time of this writing, and only the name of the 87-year-old was supplied by officers who reported on the initial incident.
At the same time as these two were making their way through the intersection, a 2015 Hyundai Elantra, driven by a 48-year-old Kissimmee resident, was also making its way towards the same location. The report at this point is not entirely clear on what happened, but it seems as though the driver of the Elantra attempted to pull into the same lane as the Camry. We are not certain whether or not the intersection is governed by a traffic light, or if the driver of the Elantra was able to make this turn at the time, but it does seem clear that the presence of the Camry inside of the lane should have made the driver of the Elantra hesitate before initiating the turn.
Before either of the drivers could swerve, the Hyundai crashed into the passenger side of the Camry, badly injuring the 87-year-old at the same time. When paramedics and EMTs reached the area, they rushed to tend to the elderly man, loaded him into an ambulance, and transported him from the scene of the crash to Osceola Regional Medical Center. It was after arriving at the medical center that this person was declared dead as a result of the injuries they sustained in the crash.
Both the 17-year-old driver and the 48-year-old driver were also injured as a result of the crash, but it does not appear that their injuries were life threatening. Charges against the driver of the Elantra are currently pending.
